clodiuspulcher:

I am simply thinking about artistic depictions of the House of Atreus that predate Aeschylus’s Oresteia

Greek Examples:

1.Mixing Bowl (Calyx Krater) feat. the killing of Agamemnon on one side and the killing of Aegisthus on the other by the Dokimasa painter. (460 BC)

2. Oil Flask (Lekythos) feat. Clytemnestra, Orestes, and Aegisthus. Probably by the Terpaulos painter. (500-490 BC)

Etruscan Example:

Temple Acroterion feat. Orestes killing Clytemnestra, 480-460 BC.
